aspireprepgrowingleadersAsk most parents what they want for their children , they’ll say they want them to do well at school, be safe when they are out on the streets, get the right skills or qualifications they need, so that they can earn enough and finally leave home!  In other words, what most parents want is what we at Aspire Prep want too: academic, social and economic success for our children. Unfortunately, too many schools are not doing enough on the academic and social front where our children are concerned. For the majority in state schools, teachers are happy if their students reach that magic C grade (or should I say 4 in the new grading system) teacher recruitment is in crisis and fixed term school exclusions runs at 1420/day in England.  What is more, at a high level roundtable discussion to which I was invited, along with David Lammy MP and Baroness Lola Young, youth offending statistics were presented which show that 1 in 3 of the 13,062 young offenders in London aged 10-17 years are in fact Black. Tragically, the number of young people who have been impacted by youth violence or death in the capital city is also increasing.

In stark contrast, independent schools, many situated outside of London, teach 7% of the school population where excellent grades are expected and achieved. Extra-curricular activities are in abundance and therapists and specialists are called in to deal with social and emotional problems. Such young people represent 30-40% of the top universities’ student intake. At Aspire Prep, we have always maintained that we are about building a pipeline for success, resilience and hope, not failure, despair or denial. We provide leadership development and academic mastery skills for young people and coaching sessions for parents on Saturdays throughout the year. We have developed links with excellent schools, such as Oakfield Prep, Wimbledon High and Michaela Community school along with scholarships and bursaries, such as Build Global, Windsor Fellowship and Amos Bursary.  With support from Virgin start up, we will  scale our offer to reach more young people across London.

We are filling a gap in the educational and personal development market by providing a much needed service to aspirational parents with talented and spirited children who want more than is being currently offered or expected in the state school. Such parents not only want to, but believe they have to invest in their number one asset – their children.  Please join us and register to attend  our free introductory session on 12th March. http://bit.ly/1TsjoD8.
